Hi all
Toying with the idea of getting an early current shape RR.
From my brief looks there doesn't seem to be much price difference between the SDv6 and SDv8.
I have heard that the v8 is particularly expensive to fix. Anyone have any idea of specifics and whether general reliability is much difference?

Thanks
Tom

I'm guessing you're referring to the RRS rather than the FFRR? The FFRR doesn't have the SDV6 engine, only the TDV6.

Personally i chose the TDV6 over the SDV8 due to limited difference in performance, the lighter front end weight (many comment on this being a key difference) & the vastly improved MPG. I was never going to be towing so the extra torque of the V8 wasn't a deciding factor.

The SDV8 is more relaxed and comfortably quicker, if very slightly less refined. Lower weight over the front axle is mitigated by the TDV6 not having hydraulic anti-roll.

I suggest driving both the v6 and the v8 back to back. Every one has different perceptions. For me V6 surely has the enough power for a SUV but i was very much surprised how different it felt as opposed to the v8. After reading loads of positive reviews i was inclined towards v6 but within the minutes of test drive i knew the v8 was the one to go for me. It just felt different class of a car, much more relaxed, smoother, responsive and a more complete package. Both cars were similar age, milage, spec, condition and on 21'' wheels.

I read on here several months ago that dealers try to avoid stocking the TDV8 as the V6 is the model most want.

The trick suspension fitted to the V8 as standard that reduces the amount of roll is in my view, a must have option on the V6.

People "want" the V6 because it's cheaper to buy and more economical. You can't specify the Dynamic Response hydraulic anti-roll on the V6 (edit - L405 proper RR, that is).

I went for the SDV8 largely because it had the anti-roll suspension (my kids get car sick). I've had it 2.5 years and no reliability problems. It's actually quite economical (33mpg on a long journey which is better than my old RR V8).

I had the same choice and for me, the SDV8 was the obvious choice. That was September 2017, so about the same time and nearly 40,000 miles ago!

I wonder how the OP got on?...
