Hi folks

I fancy a disco, around £17k to spend, and dont know whether to go for a TD5 with a chip, say a JE engineering one, or a V8 on LPG. I have a 4.0ltr cherry att he moment on gas, and I find it ok.

What would you go for? Any pointers on MPG and performance on either.

I've got an 03 TD5 with the full JE stage 2 upgrade on it.


The conversion makes it much better that standard which to be honest is crap.


mpg on the td5 istn that good either expect around 25. the je kit makes this slightly better than standard in normal driving.


When i did the offroad day for buying the disco i managed to blag the v8 ( ok it was an auto) instead of a td5 for the day.


Imho the V8 is a much nicer drive, much smoother and more refined and without the terrible diesel Clatter !!!!

P.S. i do love my disco I just wish it wa V8 like the wifies old Tuck..

Can't talk of disco's but the V8 90 is a better drive than the TD5 even though it is older. I'm biased....I chose a V8.....but paid less for it so can afford to run it on Petrol. Have stayed away from gas conversions after the iceing up problems on our boat V8 conversions.

My local LR bloke tried to sell me a tuned TD5. I think I only drove it about 500 yards before deciding it was slow, noisy and dirty and buying (another) V8 instead.

cheers for this info lads. Looks like its a V8 then, on gas!
