Freelander with fault code 144 can't resolve

Hi, I have a 2000 Freelander XDI S wagon. Can't resolve fault code 144. The warning light comes on intermittently and only when cruising. If I take my foot off the accelerator it goes out. If accelerating hard it doesn't come on. I have changed the fuel filter, checked wiring that comes out the injector pump, checked hoses and am now out of ideas. Any suggestions much appreciated.
