Anyone got any ideas?

It worked fine last weekend and the battery isn't that old, lights haven't been left on afaik. (If you're going to tell me there's an easy break in, probably best via PM. wink )

Eta no key because the ignition barrel's been changed so it doesn't fit the door.

You're probably in to smashing something then.
The official work round is to use the key in the driver's door.

Hmmm, found the key that came with the car in a random jam jar but it doesn't turn!

Arse.

The dash alarm light is flashing and I've changed the battery in the fob so I'm guessing it's the transponder in the roof. banghead

It's probably never been used so might be a bit tight.

Assuming you're trying to open it with the plipper & it isn't working is the battery in the fob OK?
Can you access the car battery to connect jump leads in case the car battery is flat?
If you can't access the battery but can get to the starter motor you need to identify the permanent live +ve heavy wire - use a multimeter to be sure.
Connect +ve of another battery via jump lead to this wire & the other jump lead from the battery -ve to a suitable earth point. Try the fob.

ETA you've answered the fob question!

It's twisting rather than turning. It probably doesn't help that it's worn due to use in the ignition.

Just found a YouTube video of how to break in... The bloke starts by fetching a hammer. cry

yes New battery in the fob. Interesting idea about using the starter to jump it.

Don't try & start it, just a means of providing power if the battery is flat.

Bit obvious, but have you also tried the key in the passenger's door (if there is a lock) and/or the tailgate?

Yep, got that. Won't get to try it until tomorrow.

The only door lock is the driver's door.

Might be worth calling a locksmith. I locked the keys in the boot my my 928 some years ago, I was very impressed watching him break in with no damage.

Nothing nearby that could be interfering with the plipper signal?
Dodgy wiring connection - battery terminals for example, or earth problems?
(Or it could be just because it's a Land Rover.......smile)
