LT77 V8 bellhousing information
Discussion
Hello,
I would be very grateful if any Pistonheads can answer the questions below...but first some background...
I have a 100" Tomcat fitted with an LT95 transmission; I wish to fit an LT77 transmission (with transfer gearbox) that was fitted to a 200TDi Discovery.
Questions
1.
I will need to change the bell-housing and pinion shaft to suit the Rover V8. I am concerned that the gear levers will end up too far back in the car if the bell housings are the same length; Is the bell housing and pinion shaft that suits the V8 a different length to those used on 200 TDi installations?
2.
If so how long the V8 bell housing is from it's gearbox mating face to the engine mating face?
3.
In addition to this are the relative positions of the front and rear output flanges the same as an LT95?
Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
regards,
Matt

I can tell you for a fact that the LT230 transfer box bolts in direct replacement of the LT95 (4 speed manual) and the prop shafts are in exactly the same place.
Cant answer question about gearbox, becuase I swapped the rover v8/lt95 for a 350 chevy/TH350 auto - mated to the LT230 - which picked up on the orginal mounting locations.
You may want to consider an R380 instead of the LT77.
That LT95 is REALLY heavy, be very careful. I also made up a cradle for lifting the LT230 back into the chassis - as I managed to cut my hand quite badly when trying to balance it on the end of a trolley jack.
