Just got this beautiful 2012 RR Sport 3.0 SDV6 HSE LUX home, and my wife phoned me to say when she pulls the wiper stalk forward to operate the windscreen washer jets, the REAR washer operates, when she pushes the button in to operate the rear washer jets....you can guess the rest right?

Anyone experienced this before....any tips for when I attempt this fix at the weekend?

Isn't that the correct operation? What does the handbook say? (The second question is something your good lady might be able to discover.)

That's how they operate in my Discovery - I believe it's as intended, but RTFM to be certain.

Push button on the end of stalk for front screen and headlight washers.

Pull stalk towards you for bidet.

They are operating as LR intended.

I'm sure on my FL2 it's pull stalk for front & push button for rear.

I'd have thought it would be standard across LR (including Range Rover) range. smile

Thanks everyone for all the replies...as always I'm overwhelmed by the responses.

As I only drove it for half an hour on Saturday I haven't even read the manual yet. I guess as on her Evoque it's the opposite (pull stalk for front wash, push button for rear wash) she thought it must be wrong!

Job for tonight: read the manual to confirm.

Thanks everyone for taking the trouble to reply to me.

One thing I'm taking from this photo is that I should probably wave a duster around in there more often. Others may just concentrate on the legends on the end of the stalk...

OK...quick update, here's what's happening, now I'm home and able to check things out.

When I push in the button: The FRONT washer squirts and the REAR wiper wipes. (If I have the wipers on Auto they do wipe because of the water now on the screen).

When I pull the lever: the REAR washer squirts and the FRONT wiper wipes. (But the rear doesn't wipe).

Now...this clearly isn't right.

The manual says:

Push and hold the button the rear wiper operates and squirts.

Pull and hold the lever to operate the front wipers and front washers.

So....anyone experienced this?

Here is washer manual page from the 2012 RRS:

https://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/content/d...

As opposed to my 2010:

https://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/content/d...

They are different - LR switched the operation. (As Shaw points out probably for continuity across the range).

Sounds like there may be a glitch - The only reason my rear wiper comes on automatically is with the wash function or if I engage reverse and the fronts wipers are on.

Oh dear, that's no good. I wonder if the car has ever had a small bump requiring the front bumper to come off.
I would be making sure the water pumps on the washer bottle have the correct electrical connectors plugged in and have not been inadvertently swapped around. Mind you, if you've only just bought it then maybe just drop it back to the dealership for them to fix it?

Good call....trip to Lookers in Chelmsford. (should be fun they usually start by blaming me for faults on the car...)

They said the same thing - bumper off and the pipes have been swapped. The same motor runs both squirters, so it was simply pipes swapped back and all running fine now.

No charge, no blame!

Good, glad you got it sorted. The simple fixes are the best - apart from the ones that are free! biggrin

Hi everyone, sorry I open the topic after so many years biggrin
Actually have exactly the same issue as David, it drives me crazy.
@David did You have to take the bumper off completely or is it possible to switch the pipes without more advances mechanical work?
