Been using the ole RR quite abit as of late due only 1 car in family recently. Anyhow, misses jumps in to go to work and the thing has no power what-so-ever. Just enough for the car alamr to give a feeble bleep and then nothing. Waiting for AA to arrive. I've seen no alternator lights on or anything like that and she has been good as gold up untill now. The battery is not the original I don't think. It is a Varta. So all I can think of is a duff alternator (sounds expensive) or a duff battery.

Anyone else know of any similar events?

Many thanks.

Happened to my Disco, wouldn't hold a charge, so wouldn't start and alarm went off. Kept jump starting it and going for a drive to charge it. Seemed alright, but within 24 hours, flat again.
Checked alternator and it was ok so changed battery and all was well.

Jump start it and see what voltage your getting off the alternator, should be a round 13v if it is charging.

Thanks matey,

AA man says it charging fine. Did a battery test and it failed. The problem won't be fixed by a change of the battery at the mo, because when engine turned off and car locked there is about 5.3amps of current being drawn off the battery.

Trying to pin point what is using so much power.

Any thoughts?

Hmm. Don't know.
Start taking the fuses out and see when the current starts to drop.

Also look for obvious corroded terminals but this is a bit of a long shot.

Well you'll never guess what! I phoned the most helpful 4x4 people on the planet. They were recommended to me the day we picked up the RR. Kingsley 4x4 nr. Farnham. Spoke to them immediately I was asked if the car was parked near motion detector lights or alarm, which it was. Turns out that these operate on v simialr freq to the key fob, so the RR kept thinking it was us approaching and energising itself. We have only just moved and the car only had to be a few inches either way to be in line of sight of neighbours sensors for the current to discharge as the RR powered up. Parked it facing the other way as we mostly do and everything is fine.

If you live down south and need work/service on your RR, call 01420 475 303.

Result!

Crikey, That could have been a nightmare to track down. Imagine taking that to the dealer!
