Front axle oil seal
Discussion
Hi,
I have a defender tdi tow vehicle, that has decided to weep oil from the front hub. I remember from my old 3 series days when I was 17 that this is usualy the oil seal. The trouble is i can't remember how it is done. The car has alloy wheels, so it has retained a large ammount of the oil within the wheel, with it only coming out of the blanking cap if it gets too full. ideas?

If the oil is on the front of the wheel behind the centre cap it will be the drive flange gasket that is leaking, just remove the wheel remove the dust cap and cir-clip from the half shft, undo the five or six bolts, remove the flange, clean the faces and fit a new gasket.
