A good friend appears to have a blown cylinder head gasket and local garage have recommended a new engine (£3k inc labour!).

Wondering if anyone has simliar experince with the 1.8 engine - any joy gettting it fixed out of warranty? - should it be repaired or replaced ?

Anyone recommend a reliable specialist in North London area?

cheers
Mark

A woman I work with has just had this exact problem. Her Freelander was 6 months out of warranty. Landrover have paid 75% of the bill for a new head gasket and cylinder head. She has still had to pay about £500 but thats half what your mate has been quoted.

Tell him to fight it.

It's this sort of thing that reminds me why I fork out the best part of £500 p.a. for extended warranty on Mrs N17 TVR's Freeloader.

Hope it gets sorted
