Hi all you LR guys out there, I'm new to this as I am new to Range Rovers.

Love them to bits which is handy. Got a 98 RR 4.0 SE (OK,OK I know I've got the wrong one, don't rub it in) which I have had for about 4 months now. Love the fact that I have to tinker with everything (I also own a 98 Audi A6 - Boringly reliable) where's the fun in not having to ? Feels just like a modern day classic in that you have to mess with it regularly.

No major faults apart from what I assume are standard:

Noisy Transfer box (turn up the radio, as quoted by 3 different LR dealers/specialists !)

Bouncy steering (hold it loosely)

Incredible thirst (use the wife's card)

Too many warning lights (put a smiley sticker over the info centre)

A bubbly lower tailgate (already ?)

And recently, a very steamy bonnet in the rain (a la 70's V8 muscle cars), but thankfully not (yet) attributed to porous engine blocks (Any other experiences of this phenomenon, am I missing some insulation on the inside of the bonnet ?)

Looking forward to sharing experiences of this great piece of machinery before BMW got their hands on it.

Am saving up for the obvious faults like ECU, bushes, rubbers, air suspension etc...) but I wouldn't swop it for anything.

Take care out there

There should be a load of insulation on the underside of the bonnet, you obviously are missing this.

Also, something else to watch out for is the heater matrix o-rings (you'll know when it's gone due to the wet feet!)

Bizarrely i noticed the steam pouring off the bonnet this afternoon - in fact I will go and look at the insulation (or lack thereof) right now......

Well there is no insulation there - should it be slotted in between the cross peices on the underneath of the bonnet?

I have a whole load of insulation stuck to the entire underneath of the bonnet - I can mail you a pic if you want.

Why worry? When I owned a Cossie, it was amusing to sit in traffic jams in the rain and watch the water boiling on the bonnet...

I'm in South Oxfordshire and I'm a member of the RRR.

Doesn't seem to be any local meetings though.

Howdie, in East Lothian and on RRR too, but not been to any events - too far away for my liking.

Hi all
I have only been a member for 4 months and have been to one event that was the town and country show at stoneleigh, I had a realy good time driving people around the off road course and the people in the club made me and my family feel very welcome.
