Timing belt on 300TDi Discovery

Now I have a Disco, I have read a lot about the timing belt causing problems and failing prematurely, but nothing about how to tell if the mods have been done or what mods you can do and how easy they are to do. Any advise would be most appreciated. Also, does anyone know how easy a job timing belt replacement is? The Haynes manual has to many 'refer to chapter ...' comments!

you need to check to see if the number is in the range (ask a main dealer). i believe they painted a yellow square on the top when the mods were done.

it's not a small job, even if you know what you are doing, and the risk to the engine if you make a mistake is enormous. get an independent dealer to check it and/or replace it. they aren't all faulty.
