I get a horrible high pitched buzzing noise through all three speakers in the front passenger side door on my '97 4.6 HSE Range Rover.

It comes and goes and usually comes on after 2 mins. I disconnected the speakers from my head unit but still kept the power on and the buzzing came through all of the car's speakers so it can't just be that door.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

I have the RAVE CD at home and will see if the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual comes up with any answers for you...

Sounds like a bad earth to me somewhere, possibly by a cracked wire or connector.

Cheers - that'd be great!

What's a RAVE CD by the way?

Schuey, again, I sold both my RR's b/c could no longer take the breakdowns.
One of mine was a 97 4.0. One of many problems was a screaming noise that wouldn't go away; came on with acceleration. Turned out to be the complete instrument panel malfunctioned (whole unit must be replaced, not just speedo or tach, etc.--whole thing sealed as a unit).
It does not appear to be your problem, but not sure from your symptoms. I think my noise also spread to speakers. Worth checking.

Sometimes I can hear engine interference, maybe the speakers are picking it up then.

Thanks, that's food for thought.

Yes, I recall now hearing engine noise bleed over also. The noise from the instrument panel would "travel", so I never would have guessed it, a mechanic had to tell me. The noise seemed to emanate from other places. Anyway, certainly check it out. Also, although mine was a 4.0, it was a 97; probably same instrument panels & probably many defective that yr. Mine went out right after warranty.

I had a look, and there is no note on this - though I don't have all the TechNotes... :-(
