assuming we are talking 2.25 petrols ther are two blocks one is a three main bearing job, the other is a five. There are 3 different cylinder heads
ERC5900 is 7:1 c/r wich is for 3 brg engines and suffix A, 5 BRG units
ERC5266 is as above but 8:1 c/r
ERC9099 is for engine no.s 36123672b, 36407286b
All the above info is from the series 3 parts book.

I went for the V8 route, conversion was quite simple, insurane was cheep and the performance was excelent.
I've driven a 2.8 ford V6 powerd Series II, and if i'm honest it made a better road engine than the V8, but wasn't as good off road. Also insuane would have been a nighmare for me, as long as i used Rover parts the insurance compamy wasn't to bothered.
Tuning a 2.25 can give similar performance to a carb feed 3.5. (but with out the v8 rummble whats the point? )
