Go to your dealer and buy a 'blend' ... (don't worry, it is relativly inexpensive ... I got mine for free from the dealer.)

Something like that:

And you will need an ISO-Adapter, coz your's will look like this, I guess:

You will get one of these at your local electronic-store ... for my taste a bid overprized, still better then to wire everything by hand.

I have the Harmon Kardon kit and would like to replace the head-unit with a DAB one / MP3 player.

Does anyone know if there is a unit that will work with the Harmon Kardon kit? To also work with the steering wheel controls would be a bonus... (but I fear I may be wishing for too much!!!)

Joe.

Jo, did you get one sorted ? I know of a kit that allows any stereo to use the door amps.

You can just slot a standard stereo in place of the old one. The face plate on the original is over-size (wider) but you can get a couple of blanking pieces from the dealers.

The Euro fitting should already be in place. I fitted a Pioneer tuner / CD / MP3 head unit in place of the tuner / tape head unit no problem.

I can take a photo if you want.

Cheers,
John.

That would be interesting to see as I'm looking to fit an upgraded unit into 2000 RR, along with a sat nav kit if I can get my hands on one.

Any recommendations ?

If you're going for Sat/Nav a lot of people would fit the original system from the HSE/DHSE but this is a pig of a job and expensive.

I already had a Garmin V setup in the Defender so I use this in the Range Rover as well. If I'd needed to buy one I'd have gone for a system that had a 'slide out' screen in a standard size unit.

I like the storage tray in place of the OE option to stick the mobile phone.

I'll take a photo of the stereo blanking plates and post them later.

If you have the "Harmon" set up connecting a normal unit will blow the door amplifiers. The fitting of the head unit is not the problem, the original unit "Clarion" was a line level output "differential output". I converted my RR to a new Clarion slide out sat nav system and linked out the original amps and added a "class A" 5 channel amp, but you could just link out the amps and use a normal head unit using its internal amp, you would still need another amp for the Sub woofer or a converter. Complicated, a tad !

Thanks for that, and yes cubby hole is handy for phone and change. May go for a handheld system as a heck of a lot cheaper.

Ok I've got some pics.

First one shows the new 'standard size stereo fitted.

Second one the gap left when the new stereo is fitted where the old one came out.

And the third one the blanking plate that hides the gap. You need a plate each side of the new stereo. You can also see the handheld GPS with the car mounting bracket.

That looks cool, but did you have the Harmon Kit? and if so how did you deal with it?
