Considering a RR to replace my Audi Estate this summer, when mentioning this to a chap today he claimed that his mate works at a RR dealership and they are mega unreliable, is this true??

I'm fancying a RR sport 3.0 TDV6 under a year old, are they really that bad?

not at all...sure as they get older things wear out ...but name a luxury car that goes forever without fault

/its mostly down to bad luck and sheer popularity of Range Rovers...everyone knows someone who had an issue with one

I'm assuming the replies are from those who have invested in them rofl

OP have you ever heard of the the JD Power Survey? seen the AA report on reliabilty? or ever noticed what the majority of cars are on the back of AA trucks??

The brand on the whole are regarded worldwide as one the least reliable vehicles on the planet!!!!

Agreed, otherwise you will be looking to upgrade straight away.

A V6 sport is an oxymoron.

1) The only vested interest would be from salesmen. The only opinion I would hold any weight to would be an owner/former owner.

2) I recently read a survey in a paper that Bristol was the second best place to live in the country. The sample size was about 150 people. Does your average RR owner answer the phone to respond to surveys??

If you want something up to a year old, the SDV6 is a brilliant engine.

Land rover sell over 350K cars a year ...even if 0.5% of people have a bad experience thats 1750 with 10 or 20 times as many friends of friends to spread negative rumours about them

everything is relative anyway...one persons "unreliable" means they cant get to grips with the sat nav, or the leather trim stitching wasnt up to their "standard" for and expensive car.....which is common, there are a lots of fussy feckers out there with nothing better to worry about in their lives

another persons "unreliable" means it broke down and stranded them 5x in one year...which is rare of course

most of the aftermarket surveys are funded by warranty companies who want you to be scared that your 3 year old car will give you a big bill next year...if you are not scared, they cant exist and stay in business...and of course, in surveys or the internet, usually its those with a gripe that moan loudest

So buy the car you want, do your research (to minimise risk) then use it and enjoy it, get a warranty if it makes you feel better

Ive done 60K miles in Speed 6 engined TVRs, over 100k miles in Range Rovers, 80K miles in a Lotus...and yes I have had a couple of breakdowns in the last 10 years, but ive had a lot of pleasure from them too and would (and have) bought them again

Quite. Actually, the Supercharged one is better still!

I am no apologist for Land Rover, having had a few issues with vehicles. However my experience of Range Rover is that they throw up a few niggling early-life faults, but when those are corrected they are excellent cars.

Compared to an L200, yes. RangeRover is in another league.

at the other end of the scale, i went for am L322 with patchy service history for 13k.

i've had a few problems, including the dealer needing to have the engine swapped! worth the pain? hell yes!

The 3.0ltr is a really good engine, there are no tdv8s under a year old in the sport any way. Would recommmend one, lovely car.

Trouble is, how do you define unreliable....

Personally I'm not sure I'd call a dodgy sensor and a light on the dash as unreliable. But these are the types of things that such surveys pick up on.

for me, that definition is the vehicle not being capable of getting you from A to B saflely, or at all.

for some, it's that you never need to do anything between servicing apart from feed it with fuel.
