How do I tell if I've got hold of a 2.0 or a 2.25 diesel engine?

Engine number looks like 27178871 (but could be something similar! will recheck if need be.)

I bought it described as a Series II engine, which would originally be 2.0.

Just want to know, it's going to be the power (well, nearly ) plant for my boat.

Over to the experts.

Firstly, please bear in mind I am grossly underqualified on Land rover engines but if you look here;

www.british4x4.nl/TheSpecialist/index.htm

under engines it doesn't seem to fit a Land rover serial number..?

Thanks for the link, it's a start at least!
Maybe mine is a 2.0 as that one is not on their list.

You'd be really really lucky to end up with a 2052cc diesel engine. Same basic engine as the 2286 (both petrol and diesel) except for capacity, injector pump type, injectors and other details. From memory a 271 prefix is a 2286cc three-bearing crank diesel (sad or what!). I used to have a 1957 88" Series One with that type of engine in; quite good but very noisy. I changed the engine for the late five-bearing crank type (Land Rover called it the 2.3) and it was much smoother, it revved better too.

Hope that helps!

P.S. 2052cc engine only fitted in 88" and 109" Series One Land Rovers. All Series 2 had 2286 diesels or (early ones 1997cc IOE petrols) petrols. I think 2286 petrol engine was introduced on the Series 2A.

Thanks Matt.

I was pretty sure it would be a 2.25, but not sure enough!
