Which sensor are you looking for?
My 1987 does not have any adjustment it is either on or off.
If yours has adjustment it could work 2 ways.
If you can change the temperature of the air coming from the system then the sensor will be in the air outlet.
If you can set the cabin temperature it will probably be somewhere around the centre consol.

Why do you think you have a sensor problem?

Sorry I can't be more help
Steve

The earliest workshop manual I have is from '95 and it refers to the unit in the description below as an aspirator.

Range Rover workshop manual

The in-car temperature sensor provides the ATC ECU
with an input of interior air temperature. The sensor is
integrated into the inlet of an electric fan, which is
installed behind a grille in the centre of the fascia,
immediately below the clock. The fan runs
continuously, while the A/C system is on, to draw air
through the grille and across the sensor.

Not sure if it is relevant but might be worth a try. Hope it helps.

Allan.
