and a rope!

Just watched top Gear on two with Clarkson testing the BMW X3. On a fairly easy off road course, albeit perhaps slippery as it was clay / grass, he managed to ground the X3 more than once. Hence the classic line,

"Get me a Range Rover......and a rope!"

It actually took a tractor to disloge the beemer in the end. Needless to say Mr. Clarkson is not a fan of the BMW but did extole the virtues of the Land Rover Defender, in this case Lara's original V8 special vehicles creation, for those of us who actually do go off road rather than just want to look like we do.

I guess you had to be there. Made me smile anyway.

With the application of a little better technique on the part of the RR I think it could have got him out.
Not saying I could do it but have seen many who could.

It was good to watch. I think he summed it up when he said the X3 was 'like a car to drive'. If you want that buy a car not a 4x4.

The problem with vehicles like the Lexus, BMW X* and Audi Allroad is that they're not designed as 'off-road' 4x4s but as road cars with an 'off-road image'.

My vote would go to a ruling that all of them must be taken off road at least once a year (more often ideally) or you're not allowed to own one.

At least my Range Rover was designed to go off-road.
