Looking at an '89 3.5 Vogue with cloth. New paint, and only 79k miles.
What do you think is a fair price? (it's on at £1.5k, but would take less)
Desperate for a new toy, but rose tinted specs and all...
Any advice?
BTW, just been told there's a slight 'clonk' when shifting into reverse (auto box) - and that this is usually just a need for new bushes...any comments, or is this a symptom of something potentially expensive?

Hi, That price should get a nice 3.5, Clonks can be a few thing or a combination of
1. front panhard rod bushes
2.rear trailing arm bushes
3.play in rear a frame
4.play in diffs
5.play in propshaft UJ's
6.the ZF 4sp has a chain drive transfer box and can clunk. (mine did this 2 years ago when I bought it, and still does 20k on, so shouldnt be to much of a problem)
Usual problems are rotten top tailgates, sills, door bottoms, bonnets, leaky power stearing boxs, rattley cam.
But I love mine, and you have to go off roading!!!!

Seaton, thanks for your advice! So far as I can tell regarding the noise, "they all do that, sir" seems to be a pretty common response. Will quiz the vendor more when I get there, but this one seems to be favourite at the moment.
A bit of offroading is definitely on the cards. I'm in South West London, so any suggestions of places a novice can pitch up and play in the mud. I've seen adverts for the Devils Pit nr. Luton, but little else around here.
Will keep you posted!
