A bit of a rebuild…galvanised bulkhead, new rear crossmember, new gearbox, new lift handle front doors, repaired 2nd row doors, new rear door, swapping the rear panels for 88” van sides, 2nd hand bonnet, headlining re-trim, and a DIY respray including a slight colour change changing the blue roof to limestone.
I decided it was a case of “better the devil you know” and super simple Tdi power, no ECUs, ABS, TC etc was a better proposition than some early noughties rot box with a load of dodgy electronics. And she turns 40 in 2026 so no more tax and MOTs. Apart from the bulkhead which is a skip job there’s a tiny bit of rot in one lower corner of the crossmember and a bit on each C pillar which is easily sorted with a YRM repair panel.

I will admit though that they certainly make a very sumptuous interior which is always much nice visually than the German competitors, too.

Starting to get fed up with this. Some people need their driving privileges removed.
First picture is from April of this year. No note left and I had to consult the CCTV to identify the number plate of the car involved (64 plate 1 Series) and track down their insurer. I saw the woman driver a day or so later and she claimed it was my fault because my car is too big and was parked too close to the white line. (It was inside its bay)
It took a little while for a slot to appear at the bodyshop but the repair was done well with a good colour match, if a touch heavy on the clearcoat. Nothing that good polish wouldn't sort once the paint had hardened.
This second photo was taken in July less than 24 hours after getting the car back home from its repair. No note left.
The bodyshop took pity on me and got it in for repair quickly and at a very reasonable cost to repaint the whole bumper skin.
Fast forward to yesterday morning and the same woman from April knocked my door and admitted she had just scuffed my car once again. And yet again it was partly my fault because my car is so big etc. She also claimed that she isn't a bad driver. I suggested that might not be a true statement.
Looking forward to securing my regular spot at the bodyshop's car park. FML.
