The early sub-frames had 2 bolts per side at the sub-frame towers. Later ones just have the large centre bolt.
Early sub-frames were bolted directly onto the body whilst later ones had rubber mountings which then deteriorated and broke. The actual position of the bulkhead mountings changed with the rubber-faced mountings - and not for the better as they can cause the bulkhead to split.

an 83 frame will fit a later car, but wont allow the fitment of an injection engine.
the later cars had a 'bump forward' frame (the front rail had a bend in it) to allow the motor to move about 1/4 forwards.
the gear steady and the engine steadies are all longer/shorter as a result.
you can file the engine mounts out, but the front of the gear box gets very tight to the straight front edge.
unless you want a load of greif, its easier to find the correct frame for the job
(says the man who is running an injection auto frame in an early car.........)

Please tell me you have a sump guard! That sounds very very nice tbh.
nah, i just approach speed humps etc with care!its running antiroll bars and coils with shockers set very soft, so its rides very well., all the exhaust is held on with springs, so nothing catches.
its actually handles and drives very well - a lot of thought and tweeking has gone into the suspension mind you

Certainly sounds like it! I have tucked away a full 70's Paddy Hopkirk sump guard and gear selector plate, weighs a bit, but as and when i get mine running I'll be fitting it. Roads in Kent are rubbish at the moment, the speed bumps are growing due to the side wear.... Are you running 10" rims?its running antiroll bars and coils with shockers set very soft, so its rides very well., all the exhaust is held on with springs, so nothing catches.
