Hi, I have a 1992 Cooper Si with the standard arches. He's just clocked the magic 100K miles and I thought I'd treat him to some new wheels and tyres.

Will I have to mod the bodywork at the front to fit these because of the width or will I be ok with these?

I know that you have to mod the arches for 13's so thought I'd be ok sticking with a wider 12"

If the 12 x 6 is 'no go'could I get away with a 12 x 5 or 5.5"?

I really don't want to mess about trimming metal.

Cheers for the advice.

you will have to cut the body work with any deepdish wheels.

even a 5" wheel will catch at the front, unless everything is new and the car sits fairly high when static.

Oh no, that wasn't the answer I was hoping for, but thanks anyway.

Is the issue going to be rubbing on full lock at the front of the arch? I had a look at my current 12" wheels and it looks like there is lots of clearance? I can understand a 13" having issues, but I kinda hoped I would get away with a 12"???

they will rub on the outer bodywork near the bumper with very little steering input.

I have wide arches and original arches underneath i had to cut and then fold up to stop the wheels catching. Have heard you can get a steering rack limiter or something to stop this happening but the turning circle will be rubbish then...
