My dad owns a MK1 1961 mini which he has just completed renovating, the speedo odometer doesnt work and he has sorced a replacement the original speeedo was at 36,000 the replacement is at 80,000 bviously he wants the new one to read the original mileage, whats the best way to adjust the milage on the new one without bodgeing it, is there any companies out there that can do the job proffesionally. Its not as if he is clocking it!!!

These guys should sort you out. I have used them in the past, really helpful.

Take it to bits, the rotating number drums can be clicked with a small flat screwdiver. Just moved sideways at the pin and clikcked round.
Make sure they line up at the end though.
Never did it myself of course.

Its definately do-able yourself - take the old one to pieces to learn how it goes together first though! And make sure its all engaged properly when you put it back together or it won't work.

Altering the reading of a milometer used to be a criminal offence, i don't know if it is anymaore,
now most people think that it only applies to reducing the miles shown, but i know of two police officers who both lost there jobs for adding miles to a new oddo to correspond with what the vehivcle had acctually done,
