Hi there, does anybody know where I can source the smaller oil gallery core plugs for a 1996 MPi? I'm currently in the process of rebuilding the engine but Minispares only seem to have the one size of plug that is too big. So if anyone can suggest anywhere to get them from this would be greatful and mean I don't have to end up making some myself!

Mmm MPi oilways , I'm sure Rover brought out a tech buletin with some sort of mod , to help with leaks . I know it doesn't help you but just a thought . I 'll look see if i can find it.

What a coincidence. My young friend who is re-building an MPI engine under my supervision as part of an A-level project(poor lad!) has been trying to source some of these. He keeps on being given a part number which I know is incorrect as it's the part number for the larger brass-cap type. I have told him to measure the diameter of the MPI oil gallery end plugs and to make some up at college on a lathe using a soft aluminium bar with about a 5 degree inclusive taper, 3/8" long with the smaller end diameter 0.003" smaller than the gallery hole diameter. We will just hammer them in like the old brass ones which were so effective. That should do it.

I have managed to find some from somerford mini's. It seems that they are usually found on 1997mpi engines onwards and are £1.98 each! Part number: LYQ100120

I think we'll make some in soft aluminium. It'll be a good mechanical fitting exercise for my friend and they won't leak either.
Those brass larger ones are poor quality compared to the old brass solid ones. Cheapskate Rover again!
