de-cat?

is it possible to de-cat a mpi cooper ?
can you just get some kind of a de-cat pipe or do you have to do something with the chip ?
i read somewhere that the engine won't run if the cat is not there ? is this true?
can i get a new chip to over ride this ?

Don't know about the ECU, but you can definitely buy de-cat pipes. Somerford Mini stock them - he's a mine of information so might be worth a call to find out the details? 01249 721421

Just buy a decat pipe from somerford or minispares, no fiddling with the management needed.

Nope it's not true - my brother (cooper_ed) had a 2000 Mpi cooper, that was decatted, and it ran like a charm...

the cat dose not restrect the air flow on a 1275cc u only really need 2 remove it on 1380 1430 big stuff like that and if u get caught by cops with no cat its 3 points and a big fine what u should do is go 2 scrappy or sumthing or if ur cats knackard and get a old cat and knock out the baffles inside it with screw driver or sumthing like it and fit it in so when mr policeman looks under u have a cat but wha they dont know is it dosnt do nething
