My 17 year old son is taking his driving test in a few weeks (having already passed theory) and is itching to get on the road in the 1989 Mini Thirty we've had ready and garaged for a few months now.

He wants to join an owners club (and it's a condition of the classic policy he'll be insured on), but the first one coming up on google (http://www.miniownersclub.co.uk/membership.htm) membership page states that it's not taking new memberships.

Next one is http://www.britishminiclub.co.uk/ so looks like we'll go for this. Just wondered if any thoughts on this sub-forum before we go for it....

Cheers

There are a lot of good local clubs as well. Try mini club then your county or town on the web. Not known of a bad club, just depends on what you want.

As above local clubs are a good idea.

As above - local clubs normally have meets, runs and go to shows in convoy, often they have clubstands you can put your car on. Try theminiforum as well - joining their members area gets a hefty discount at minispares - which comes in VERY handy!

Being a member of the national mini clubs helps on insurance though possibly not much with your son's age
