Me likely! Can somebody explain what the dry decking is all about?

Dry decking - modifying waterflow through the Block and Head and optimising cooling. Basically a standard 5-port head will run hotter at No.4 (furthest from thermostat housing) and this can lead to lean running/detonation on race motors. Had personal experience of No.4 cylinder "Picking up" to due lean running - all the rest o f the pots were fine...
Dry decking stops the transfer of water from block to head via the standard waterways as these are closed off. Instead the water is forced across the block (due to water pump or seperate electrical pump feed) and then taken via an external feed from the tiebar mounting end of the block and back into the head at no.4 cylinder. Spigots are required and machining to block and head.
Water is therefore forced back across the head (effectively creating a cross flow arrangement) and the coolest water acts first on the critical No.4 end. Doing this guarantee no raised temp spots in a 5 port head - shouldn't see why a 7-port would be any different.
hope this answers the query...

Thats pretty much my perfect mini. There have been a few yukon grey 7 ports recently.... and i feel i am slowly getting down to what I want to create...... I'm feeling early 70's racer theme, keeping it period to the shell.....
That front end no doubt cost 10-15k in that video. Very nice set up, must be a radical cam profile to get the best out of twin 45's, (over twin 40's) but it will never be short of fuel...
At 1380 on that carburation i bet its a bit of a torque monster rather then a spin merchant.... oh i would love a go!!!!!

I wouldn't put softer plugs in for the winter based on what what you've just said. So all other three plugs are fine (Chocolatey/white deposists on electrode) and No.4 is showing signs of o/heating damage?
Pics please.
I think it might have been due to the heater tap valve being partially closed. I have removed the wire all together now and just left it wide open as I never use it. I require every ounce of heat for the steamed up windows - need to a dehumidifier to dry it out inside. Short winter journeys don't help. I'll pull the 6's and see what condition they are in at the weekend.Pics please.
Cheers
Go to a hardware shop and buy some silica crystals, put them in a cloth bag bung them in the back and they will absorbe all the moisture in the car long term.
Stick half a pillow cases worth in if you really want to go for it. I bought a 5kg bag from a builders merchant for a tenner a few years ago.
Nifty trick.

Thats a cracking idea thanks, I have bought 2 sets of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am... and will get some more from work. I might place them in the rear bins?Stick half a pillow cases worth in if you really want to go for it. I bought a 5kg bag from a builders merchant for a tenner a few years ago.
