hat looks bad. Whatever went through the gears to cause that? That is most unusual damage.
That'll be a nice little weekend job sorting it out. Still, st happens in life, especially in Mini life

Don't really know what happened to be honest. Tried looking to see if there appeared to be anything else damaged that went through them, but can't see anything. and everything else runs fine, the engine was fine before we took it out, and there's no play or abnormal movement in any of those shafts.

So not really sure what did those two in, but whatever it was did a good job.

Not gonna be fixing that box, just swap it for another one we already have.

If you don't already have one, a central oil pick-up pipe is a good idea in order to maintain oil flow to the bearings during long or hard cornering to the right. It's easy to fit and gives you the chance to check/change the lay-shaft and lay-shaft bearings at the same time.

Interesting you should say that, I had just gone round a round-a-bout turning right, before the gearbox went. So it's possible that was the issue...

I shouldn't think so. It is normallt the big-end and main-bearings which suffer when oil surge in the box happens as the oil pump sucks up just air - not good for the bearing surfaces.

Yeah I spoke to Dad about it and his comments echoed yours.

Dads and Grandads are invaluable when working on Minis, as my son and grandson(Cooperkid on here) can confirm.
I think its down to tools, workshop and cash!
It all keeps me young, I guess.
