Greetings one and all. I've recently dived back into the mini scene and bought my sixth mini. Nothing too special right now, just a reasonably tidy G plate Mini City.

To the point....

I have a problem with what I think are exhaust fumes getting into the car. When I first bought it, I assumed it was due to the existing LCB / Homemade system being rotten. Having duly replaced this with a new LCB and RC40 Twinbox system, exhaust fumes still persist in attempting to choke me. The fumes only get into the car when its moving. There do not appear to be leaks in the engine bay, and it doesnt sound like the exhaust is blowing anywhere.

Anyone had a similar issue?

Maybe it's not exhaust fumes, maybe it's oil vapour from the crank-case breathers. Check out the hoses from the breathers, do they go to a pipe on the carb or vent to atmosphere ?? Via a cute K&N type filter ?? Is the engine bay "dirty" with an oily film ??

Also don't discount a leak under the car coming up through the gear lever, particularly a leak from the "Y" piece of the LCB. Did you seal the "Y" piece with any exhaust paste ??

Just a couple of thoughts.........

Just a thought - check the boot lid seal. If the fumes get into the boot it could cause this.
Gear lever seal is another thought.
