Does anyone rmember the Minisprint from the 1960's? Do you know of anyone doing a version today or where I can find one for sale? No one believes me when I explain what they looked like......

With thanks,

J.

Lots of info here.

www.minisprint.eu

Seem to recall that someone had recently started to make a fibre glass version of the shell too...but my meagre memory forgets who...if I remember I'll re-post.

mini sprints are chopped both in the pillers and body, between 1.5" and 2" (so a total chop of 3-4")

normally deseamed, but the roof gutter is left (unless its been chopped so the front screen intrudes into the roof, in which case a fell deseam is done)

some have round lights, some of the 1960's 'GTS' versions had square lights.

mini sprints are also a converted metal shell - a glass fibre version is a kit car - the guy selling the grp copys was stopped for infringing bmh copyright

VPR470 has recently been discovered in a garage where its been sat unused since the early 1970's - from the photos ive seen its not going to need much work to get it going again

a nice find, its the second (i think) mini sprint that neville tricket ever built.

if its a 1 3/4 tricket one all that was done is that the neck and a small part of the tank is rotated round and rewelded.

anything more than 1 3/4 it gets more complicated as the tank needs shortening a lot - its as easy to cut it into sections then reweld it all - this is becasue the body is tepering at such an angle it nips the tank. you can put a 'hump' in the parcel shelf to make it easier, but this looks rubbish.

obviously cutting and welding fuel tanks is dangerous, blah blah blah, and shouldnt be attempted by anyone unless you know what your doing!!! (or dont know what your doing and like the occasional surprise!!)

Many thanks to everyone- all the posts are much appreciated. But, do you know of anyone who will undertake this type of conversion on a steel shell. Or better still is there one for sale?

All the best,

J.

I believe Neville Trickett is still converting shells, as long as you provide him with a sound one.

john

as mentioned aboove, contact neville using his website, book your shell in, deliver it to him in france, wait about three months (getting almost daily updates from him), go and pick it up.

stay over night in his castle if you can, its well worth it.

he is a very nice bloke who has lived his life to the full and is more than a little mystified at how well his name is known in the mini circles - to him a minisprint was something that he did in the 1960's, then forgot about as he moved onto other things!

the great man himself, surrounded by genuine sprints, recreations, etc
