Has anyone comment to make on fitting/using a quickshift lever to a rod change gearbox? Are there any compatability issues with dog type gears? Any comments appreciated.

It should be a straight forward swap. Sometimes the nylon ball can be a tight fit, but some light sanding with an emery cloth will get it to fit.
The only thing i'm led to believe is they don't like 5 speed gearboxes. Also the manufacturing quality varies a great deal, purchase from a reputable supplier if at all possible.

Remember, the so-called 'Quickshift' doesn't mean you can shift gears more quickly, it just means there is lees gear lever travel. If you try to shift more quickly you will 'beat' the syncromesh and end up having a gearbox re-build.
I have heard them called 'QuickGraunch' gear shifts!

I had one fitted to my mini and found it ok. I was told by some one how dose a lot of work on race minis that people had used them for racing but in the end taken them back off. I dont know why that was but if you are going to race it its worth finding out if others in you class are using them.

The reason they are not too popular in competition is that the 'gate' is so close it is easy to miss a gear or, maybe worse, try to select the wrong one.
I had one on a standard SPI a few years ago and on the road it was fine, although it took a bit of getting used to. I would, however, not have wanted it on any of my rally Minis for fear of missed changes.
The best gearchange is probably the remote-change as fitted to the original Cooper and Cooper 'S' so ,ong as the bushes in the gearbox asing are in good condition. With the later rod-change box, I have found that if you modify the rear mounting rubbers, which are far too soft, and make them more stiff the change is really good and the throw reduced. To do this, I have used a pair of the rectangular exhaust mountings (the front ones on the rear sub-frame), cut to fit at the rear of the rod mechanism and bolted through the floor with 2 bolts on each mounting. That makes it really excellent and very strong. It's a neat, low-cost improvement too.

I agree, i brought a cheap one (lifting collar reverse) and had to do more than a light sanding to make it fit, once i realised why it didnt that is!! Also the retaining clip that holds the ball on is an ordinary circlip unlike the 'reputable suppliers', which kept coming adrift, which just leaves you with a floppy stick and gears! i ended welding the clip on, delicately so, which left me with a tight short gear change, which requires great accuracy.
I have a old type KAD quickshift on my 1340 which i prefer because it gives a short change, but doesnt require such great accuracy.
Not sure how any of these get on with a dog box....
