Have a mk1 I am trying to decide whether it is too far gone to repair and break for parts or to go down the expensive route and restore. The problem is that I
think it may need a lot of welding and new panels especially the floorpan which
may need a jig. I seem to remember "cooperman" mentioning he has a contact with a
jig who undertook that sort of work. I would be very grateful if he or anyone else
with same could contact me to discuss. Thanks

Save it.

If You do it properly, You dont need a jig. Use some pipes and veld them temporaly to fix the chassis before cutting.

Thanks for the picture it makes mine look positively showroom. but still frightens
the life out of me. I guess its just that first cut that needs the nerve.

If You leave the sill and the tunnel (maybe half the crossmember) , plus veld in a side support, there will be no problem. Just cut the floor panel straight (they get curved while pressing), and put it in before cutting. Draw it around. Leave an extra 15mms from the line and cut out the floor. Drill several holes around the edge about 15-20mms from each other with 6-8mms diameter. Mate the floor panel with the chassis and veld it through filling the holes. If You would like to add strenght, You can veld the edges together 30-40mms long 10cms from eachother.

Do only one side at a time.

Not a one-day job, but deffiniatly no NASA-mission.

Good luck.
