mini supercharger kit???!!!!!!
Discussion
I have a mini with a 1330cc A+ engine in with all the bees nees. I am looking for more power out off the engine and the supercharger kit seems good money for good power. been looking at johnspeed kit which is around £1,100 which to me seems the best out there. has anyone got this kit and would like to now what you think off it please.
many thanks ted

Superchargers are definately better than turbochargers IMHO. They run cooler, don't have any appreciable lag as they are driven directly from the crankshaft and are more reliable and easy to set-up correctly.
I've some limited experience with Shorrock 'blowers' and these were fitted to Minis and other A-series engines back in the 60's.
Somewhere on the web is an article entitled 'ABC of Supercharging' and it deals with Shorrock installations and the necessary calculations.
The old limitation of superchargers was the 'V-belts' used to drive them which could slip when wet or if they got a bit slack. However a 'Fenner-type' toothed belt is now available and toothed pulleys are available off-the-shelf which just require the centre diameter to be bored/reamed to give the correct pulley ratios and fit. For a 1275 engine a 1:1.2 ratio is about right IIRC with a geometric compression ratio of c.8.5:1.
If you can't find the info you want, PM me and I'll find it for you.

Have a look at Matrix' project:

He works for Moss, they took the supercharger kit they sell for the Midget and adapted it, kind of as an experiment to see if they could develop a kit for the Mini. His set up is very impressive, and took an N/A engine putting out just over 110bhp, to about ~180bhp I believe. Spoke to him a few days ago and sadly it sounds like Moss aren't looking to develop or sell this kit, but it is still possible to either take the Midget kit, or to just get hold of the same type of supercharger and develop your own kit.

The jonspeed kit is just a cheap poor quality copy of the vmaxscart kits.many thanks ted
Stuart at vmaxscart was the first to do these kits , and his kits are far far superior to the jonspeed tat.
