The iva dosnt seem to be that bad realy just a kind of mot to make sure the car is put together properly,I've not read too much into it but thats what it seems to me to be... to make sure you bolt the diff on with at least two m6 bolts, one bit of blue tack and some string!
i think the 450 quid cost and the resultant 'Q' plate is pretty bad......There is loads of hotrods and other customs running different drive lines ie loads of ford pops have rover, chevy or ford v8s, jag back ends and viva front ends none of which are standard parts but still retain a non q plate reg maybe I would need to "re body" an alfa? £450 seems a bit steep for an iva inspection though. And it is a very good point about the q plate thing does anyone know what "route" you would take to avoid getting one?
Has a new directive come from VOSA for MOT testers to 'dob' modified car owners in for an 'IVA'? The only thing I have noticed is a recent article in Classic Car Weekly sensationalising a 27 year old 'dob-in' law (real news was obviously thin on the ground that week?)
People have been doing this sort of thing for years - as far as the DVLA are concerned the only log book change will be the engine capacity, the worst you'll need for that is a supporting letter from a garage confirming the engine size.
Don't worry about 'IVA' - just do the job properly and safely and use a trusted MOT station who ain't a nimby knob!

Your reading the wrong mags. The DVLA has set out when the extra test neads doing and when not. They also have a habit of testing the car based I belive on the engine? The test is a lot harder to pass. Its the MOT stations that are reporting cars. Its not imposible but when you start the work you nead to know what your gole is. What records to keep and what the car will nead to pass the test.
