How can I stop my neighbours mini cooper sport rusting. Is there any maintenance she can do to improve the longevity of the body work etc?

Waxoyl (from new or as soon as possible) is a good way. Some like to coat everything with it, but I prefer put it in the sills and on seams etc. and try to keep the underside clean during the winter when there is salt on the roads.

It will still rust so I treat any rust as soon as it appears and check/re-apply the waxoyl regularly.

What I do to make sure the inside of the sills are fully protected is to cut a hole about 0.75" diameter in the front end of the sill under the wheel well and feed lots of Waxoyl in under high pressure. Then I make up an oblong sheet steel cover plate with a piece of gasket material on the inner face and fit it over the hole with a couple of self tapping screws.
Finally I fit a mud flap to prevent stones and grit from the front wheels from 'sand-blasting' the sills.
Remove the mud flaps and little cover plate once every year and reapply the Waxoyl. If the Waxoyl is a bit thick make sure it is quite warm when you put it into the pressure gun - thin with a bit of white spirit if necessary to make sure it is runny enough to gat into all the little crevices.

putting waxoxl up into the screen scuttle panel is a good idea - use the long probe to get right into the ends (from under the bonnet) and right up in the top rear edge under the screen rubber.
The sills have been mentioned - my preference is to drill a few large holes from the inside sill and two places up the A-Pillar will allow you to get lots of wax in there, as well as spraying up from the vent flutes in the outside of the sills...
The Doors and bootlid definately need doing.
The rear valance closing setions, and rearmost corner (accesable behind the rear subby rear crossmember) are also points that need spraying!

Good luck trying to fend off the inevitable!
