20w50 Mineral oil, because the oil is shared with the Gearbox.

So no Synthetic or Semi-synthetic.

Halfrauds do a 20w50 Mineral and a number of classic parts specialists.

Personal favourite is Valvoline Racing 20w50. Alternatively Castrol Classic 20/50, Duckhams or Halfords 20/50 or Millers or Penrite 20/50.
Remember, the original Mini gearbox came from the basic design for the Morris Minor, A35 and Sprite, which needed an EP80 gear oil, so anything less for the gearbox is a compromise. The best compromise is a good 20w50 mineral.
I once used a synthetic oil in a rally Cooper 'S'. It cost me a set of syncro hubs, a set of cam bearings, a set of both mains and big ends, an oil pump and a lot of work!

I used cheap 20-50 to run in my engine, then changed to Millers 20-50. The oil pressure increased by 5psi at 3000rpm!
