Engine ID and drive shaft questions
Discussion
Hi, couple of basic questions!
Can anyone ID my engine from this number: 12HE72 10031. From what I've read the last part is the serial number and the first part makes it a 1275 but I can't figure out what flavour 1275 it is, can anyone help?
Also I'm putting this engine into a Clubman shell that has different CV joints, do I need to replace the drive shafts or the diff or something completely different? I've added some pictures below showing what's there at the minute.

Sorry for the basic questions but this is my first mini so I'm just getting my head round things!

Cant help with the engine ID. Your drive shafts are old type and diff newer. If it was me I would change the drive shafts. It would be worth checked if there is any value in the old type drive shafts (put them on ebay etc and pay for the replacments). The new (my 1979 mini had them and I think they were first used in the early to mid 1970's) are easy to get and will give you more options.

Hi Nathan,
As regards to your engine number; 12H stands for 1275 High Compression. I suspect that your engine is either out of an Austin Metro with an unleaded head or a 1275 mini, still fitted in 1999.
What you require is a set of 1275 driveshafts or GT ones. You could use mini thou' driveshafts, but the 1275 ones are bulkier & your best option.
