As i have little real experience with the Verto flywheel/clutch assembly in a competition environment can anyone help a little.
I am preparing a Formula 1400 Enduro rally Car using a 1991 Cooper 1275 as the basic vehicle. According to the regs the engine and transmission must remain standard and I am just going to 'blueprint' the unit. Now, I believe the Verto clutch lacks spring pressure and the centre plate can easily slip and burn if the power is increased and the clutch abused (and I'll be abusing it!)
Without cheating, how can I improve the clutch performance apart from just fitting a heavy-duty centre plate?

Pretty much the only thing I found to get better clutch out of a verto was to fit a H.Duty centre plate, the one minus the springs. This does make considerable difference though as long as you keep it oil free. (Unlike myself when I was rebuilding!)

I don't think there is any way to increase the spring pressure.

Thanks, Wildfire. Do you think one could machine a tiny bit (a few thou) off the pressure plate pillars, or is that not feasible with the Verto?
I'm now wondering if the earlier Cooper 'S' unit could be fitted, as it is still a standard Mini unit. I'll check with the RACMSA I think. That would be the answer. I've got loads of standard flywheels and backplates in my stores.
