Hi guys;

I'm wondering if someone has a Mini lying around with no bumpers they can measure nose to tail for me.

I looking at doing a road trip around the US this summer in some Minis with mates; http://www.minimayhem.net/index.php

But a 20ft container is 240mm short of allowing 2 mini's in. I'm wondering if i could loose bumpers and it would fit.

Cheers guys.

The overall length of a Mini with its bumpers on is 10ft 0.25".
So 2 Minis should be 1/2" over 20 ft. I had a look at my cars and it looks as though the bumpers are adding about 2" to the overall length, 1" at either end.
With bumpers removed the overall length should come out at 19ft 8.25". In a 20ft container that would just allow a 1" thick protective piece of foam at each end and in the middle.
Good luck with driving your Minis in the USA. I drive my friend's 1071 'S' when I'm over there, but that's usually after we have serviced and repaired it!

Sadly a 20ft container is an external measurement.

I quick Google found me this; http://www.sjonescontainers.co.uk/dimensions.htm

which says the internal dimensions are a mere 19'3"

Which is sadly too short!

....... how wide is the container, because I'm sure you could drag the back end of each one round on a trolly jack so they are diagonally parked next to each other!

Joe, genius!

That might work. Door width is 2286mm, but the container width is 2311mm

Mini Length is 3055.

I like your plan. I'm going to use some GCSE maths and work out the shapes involved.

Or make Scale paper models of each.

As its fun...

the only way to get two normal minis into a container is to load the first, then make a ramp/ wooden frame so the second one sits above the bonnet of the first.

Really? You speak from experience? This is not good news.

How secure would this be? do container ships rock about much?
