Is your pedal low? check the clevis pins for wear (under the dash and the bonnet) and the actuating arm for an oval hole. its quite a commen fault.

The clutch dose have some ajustment. The bolts near the piston plus the bolts at the end of the arm.

If you dont have a manule I am shore some one hear can remeber the procider. (I normaly just play about till it works, not the best way)

I had a very similar problem on my old mini, exactly the same gears too. Turned out to be worn selector forks... New box (reconditioned) in my case. Hope its something less drastic.

it's not stiff left to right,

But its so stiff going in to second and first, I snapped the welds at the bottom of the gear stick... the whole lot came off in my hand, I drove home in third?!

I have adjusted the lever bolt.... before, but this makes no difference... its quite hard to get to on a 94 my other one is right in front of you?!

maybe its time to look at the gear box its self?? frown

thanks for your help guys... love your work

You sure its not the clevis pin? they tend to wear causing the clutch not to disengage fully.

Check the clutch fluid level, if it's low search for the fluid leak. Usually the slave cylinder, pull the rubber dust cover back and see if it is covered in contaminated fluid.

I think you will find that the reverse idler gear has moved on the bronze bushes running through it, and the only good and permanent solution is to fit an earlier idler with the one piece (i.e. one bush running the overall length of the gear, instead of a two piece) bush from an earlier gearbox. It was another failed improvement that Rover made when the A+ engine & gearbox were introduced.

this fault would make it stiff going 2nd to 3rd, and normally can be fixed by putting the car into reverse (which pushes the bush back into the gear)

if the gearbox is impossible to get between 1st / 2nd but fine every where else it sounds like the fork or the 1st/2nd hub is at fault.

its inside the gearbox, whatever it is though, thats for sure!
