Hi All,

I am considering to purchase a Mini Cooper S from 1964, but following the
information I have on chassisnr, there is something not right.
The chassisnr is KA2S4 1379907.
Following the Mini Cooper identification guide on Minimania.com these Cooper S cars are numbered between 551501 and 1066319.

Can someone please tell me if this is correct, or is the above chassisnr
not existing ?

Many thanks,

Koen.

I suppose it would be possible to put a K in front of the normal plate. I'm assuming it is an Austin??

Look very very carefully at the "bits" and if it is missing anything or "those bits" seem new/altered, walk away.

I know most Coopers and S's were modded and mucked about with, but really, to pay the premium for an S, you have to be certain it's right.

One local scumbag (ebay beware) seems to have a habit of matching old Mk1 minis with boxes of bits and registration documents. They sell for a fortune and DVLC are not interested.....

Beware, beware and beware. Somewhere down the shed, I have a book on it. I'll dig it out when I'm down there later. smile

My 1964 Cooper 'S' was built on 30th July 1964 and first registered on 25th nov 1964.

It's a Morris and the chassis number is KA2S4 1552901 with an engine 9FSA-Y-32000. Austins were CA2S4-------.

Yours seems to be a number not too far removed from mine and those details are from the Heritage Certificate.

Sounds OK to me.

Thanks for the interesting replies.
The chassisnr is not too far off from yours Cooperman. The car is built in December 1964, so it is possible. It is only a little bit strange that the chassisnr is counting down instead of up ... ?

The engine nr is 9F SA Y 34605, and this is a
correct nr for the Cooper S.
It is also not too far off from yours Cooperman.

I'll get a heritage certificate, and this will clear it all I think.

The date you have, without a Heritage Certifiate will be the date of first registration. Mine was built in July and registered in November. Yours could have been built is, maybe, April, but not registered till December. Some sat in dealer's for a long time, or were in a large car park at Longbridge from which they didn't necessarily get dispatched in any sort of order of build date.
As you say, the Heritage Cert will answer the questions.

pete

i doubt an early 1725S would have sat in a dealers for months? - there was huge demand for them, so much so that the sales of 1071/970 slumped as the public perceived that the 1275 was somehow better than the far superior (imho) 1071

Hi Rich,

I was only going by the fact that the build date for mine was given by Heritage as July '64 and the first registration date was Nov '64. You are right, I bought a new 998 in June that year and had to wait 2 months for delivery.
It's all a bit odd really, but the question is do we rely on the Heritage info?
