I picked up a Mini this evening which I think is a '77.

It was given a semi-restoration about 18 months ago and sadly the man who did the work on it passed away at the start of this year without ever getting to enjoy the fruits of his labour.

His family and I came to an arrangement and it's now in my shed.

The car was originally recovered from a scrap yard and came without any paperwork or number plates.

I need to try to get duplicate peperwork for it from our local County Council (the registration procedure here is different to in the UK).

The VIN plate looks like this .....

Can any of you explain what the various lines of information mean so I can fill in the form correctly and get the car legally on the road.

Thanks.

i dont think the car you have is as old as a 1977

you vin decodes as...

SAX - mg rover

X - nothing

C - 1098 cc

2S - 2 door

1 - round front (not clubman)

0 - city e model

2 - 1984 on

0 - rhd

262954 - serial number

the CNC is a colour called 'clove' used between 1981 and 1986 - its a bown of some sort

AMS is (i think) bitter chocolate, a very dark brown colour

so, you should have a brown, round front mini, with an 1100 engine, 12" wheels, 8.4" disc brakes, right hand drive, with brown interior.......i hope!

hope this helps

Not bad Rich - apart from AR group never made a round nose 1100 apart from the "special" , and the digit actually reads L not C which denotes a 998cc .

Should have gone to spec savers loser
