Just bought a replacement for the de-laminating, pitted original.
Should I give it a go myself (and if so what is the best method), or should I just take it to autoglass and get them to do the swap?

I have done a screen at home befor. It worked did not leak or have any other problems. 3h it took me. So if you have the time and you are that type of person go for it. I may do it againe but in most cases I would get a pro in.

The way I did it was:
Put a new rubber in the frame.
Put a strong pice of string all the way round the rubber.
Put a small amout of washing up liquid on the rubber.
Place the screen at the bottem of the frame and pull the string out.
As the string comes and pulls the lip of the rubber out puch the screen in.
It did work in some way but I did use a plastic lever when it went wrong.

I used a screw driver to fit the trim, There are proper tool avaleble that wont cut the rubber. Next time I would use one if I did it againe.
