1991 Mini Cooper S - John Cooper Conversion
Discussion
Hello all!
I am hoping to find out a little bit more about my mini but am getting a bit stuck as it is a German import!
Basically, I have a left hand drive Mini Cooper S that had a John Cooper Conversion, there is a plaque on the engine that says number 049-S-GR. It was originally registered in Germany and then bought back to the UK. It has a walnut dash with walnut trim and full leather interior, even heated seats!
I am trying to think of other things about the car that might help...
What I want to know is how many were made to go to the German market, is there any significance behind the plate on the engine that has the details of the john cooper conversion. I get the feeling it might be a rare little motor but just can't find much information. I do have all the history including the german registration documents and the john cooper conversion certificate if any information off those would help?
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!
Oliver

the plaque is the conversion number, so at a guess I'd say it was no 49 (049) S conversion (S) for the (GR) German market. I would have thought that the order would be as per any UK S conversion from the local Austin Rover dealer at the time. The box of bits would have arrived at the dealer from the UK and they would have carried out the conversion at the selling garage.
In the UK you also had a plaque on the door cill (driver side I think) that I think gave the chassis number etc and again the conversion number. Together with John Coopers engraved signature and the logo (as per the certificate you show) but this may be a UK thing only.
