Almost identical weight to a steel shell by all accounts.

Something to do with the strengthening they have to put into it or similar...

The weight is indeed due to stiffening required - it's just very thick fibreglass, but glass isn't the lightest stuff on the planet.

At least the bloody thing wouldn't rust

I looked at one of these a few years ago only to be told that Rover had stopped them (Hawk cars?) producing it!, still got the brochure somewhere

There is a complete car for sale in the back of Miniworld this month, if you don't mind a bright green flipflop coloured 998cc powered car for £12K!

Theres a compny up here called FRA doing complete glass mini shells for around £1200 if I remember correctly.
Based in Ferryhill Co. Durham I think. See Kit Car mags for info.
Used to belong to The Toy Shop at one time. Looks good if finished off and quick too.....
