I have built a Mini VIN / Chassis Number decoder for my site. Currently the 1959-1969 and 1969-1974 versions are done.

Anyone got one of these Minis? (Cooperman???) If you could give it a try and let me know whether you get what you expect I'd be grateful!

Hi Miniman, I'll try it tomorrow and let you know how it works.
What a super idea.

Hi Miniman,

I tried you de-coder, but couldn't get it to accept the VIN number M/A2S440101412.
This is a blue 1962 Morris 850 for which i have the log book and body shell for resto.
Reg No. is OXG877

Interesting - that number doesn't fit the pattern I was expecting. It decodes to:

M: Morris
A: A series
2S: 2-door saloon
4: Mk I Morris

then the rest doesn't match. (40101412)

the 4 should be (according to my source) D, L or S, followed by a 3-digit build number, followed by A or M for the build plant.

Suspect the build number here is actually 40101412 and the D, L or S is optional (it shows Deluxe, Super or LHD).

I'll adjust the code to cope with longer build numbers (thinking about it, 3 digits couldn't possibly be right - there were more than 999 Mk I's built, I'm sure).

The last character is listed as "not reliable" by my source so perhaps I should cater for it not being entered.

Thanks for trying it!
