CC Sat...having a great time, rev counter and speedo off the clock as per last year...

..passing most of those out there until I guess lap 6 @ the 1st chicane...

...then dunk and big loss of power and a very rough sounding engine.

Coasted across the grass up to the marshalls @ Tower with steam coming fromn under the bonnet..

...ah ha...when did I last look @ the temp gauge...can't remember but it was about 100-105.

Towed back to the paddock where the diagnosis began after a little cooling time...

...filled up with water and undid each plug in turn...no water...so the jacket is intact...

....no rods sticking out the block...so what next ?

Undo the rocker cover and all seems to be ok.

Ask a nice person if he has a compression tester...and it shows nothing on No.2...

...ah...I think we found it...and also lots of tappet clearance in No.4 rocker.

So does the piston have a hole in it ?

Dunno yet...other things to do today...and probably won't for a while...

...I guess the time to try a scatter cam has come fwd...

....along with the Sals diff and JK SC box...oh goodie...missed having that.

The yoko A048's were good...still have that track day look about them as came home with the AA.

That’s a shame, as I fitted a spare engine it wasn’t exactly set up well it seemed to get a strange popping noise once it got to 5k rpm, probably down to the poor timing and mixture setup, think the needle needs changing as it seems to be leaning out at the top end, if you tweak the mixture up it helps the top end but the bottom is to rich and causes it to kick out black smoke just above idle.

Still managed to pass about 11 cars in the first 2 laps and it didn't go bang, first time I’ve not had something go wrong at combe in a long time.

Just finished the autopsy in the 1380....a good old favourite....dropped a valve....No.4 to be precise.

Fortunately, the piston survived...just a round impact mark made by the edge of the rimflo that I can polish out...everything else seems to be fine.

So....strip down....clean....and rebuild....but this time with the Sals diff, JK S/C box, 1.08 drops and S/H 3.44 CWP....

That’s good the piston and bore wasn’t damage, after mine dropped a valve I end up with a pile of scrap, I’ve been really tempted to rebuild my 1380 but I’m spending to much on the Griff at the moment.

When do you think you’ll finish?

Too much....time or money....or both ?

Finish ....there is no timescale planned....might be a couple of weeks....or maybe months....depends upon other things....like a new job ....and my new toy - Tuscan No.29

My nicely restyled Ex valve is now on the mantle piece....but what's also concerning is that a couple of guides are movable in the head with just hand force....not seen that b4.

The story will no doubt unfold over the next few days....gripping isn't it !
