Nitrous Oxide to a Mini 1000
Discussion
Another vote for the Wizards of Nos.
If setup correctly with all the safety aspects then an engine will not fail due to nitrous oxide.
HOWEVER, if you use too much nitrous oxide you may wreck your engine due to it no longer being able to handle the power it produces.
Semantics maybe, but it's an important fact. Running too much boost on an engine will wreck it with a turbo, but that's not the turbo's fault, it's the fault of the owner/tuner for not setting up the engine to handle it.
Having a car revving too higher when not designed too, is just as likely to cause engine failure. But it doesn't mean n/a tuning is the cause.

Hence Rich's comment on the durability of standard pistons and the ability of the crowns to part company with the gudgeon pin. Hardly semantics.
It depends on how it brakes and why. Using a well setup nitrous kit with safety switches shouldn't be a problem. Upping the power too far will of course cause issues, but that is hardly the fault of the nitrous is it?It made too much power and broke.....
It would be like blaming your tyres when you drove too fast round a corner and into a hedge.
- it's not the fault of the tyres that you over did it.

I'm pretty interested in this myself. How much power gain is feasible for a standard 948 A Series?(currently pushing about 50bhp due to tuned 1 3/4" carb, electric fan, LCB and mesh/oil air filter)
Standard pistons, but if I'm only after a low level spurt I guess that's ok.
Would 15bhp from a fogger be a reasonable aim?

p.s. before everyone suggests supercharging instead, that IS tempting, but at £1500ish, it's a bit out of range compared to burning £5 of N2O every other weekend...
