My Mini has been sitting for a couple of years now without running, last time I did this I had to prime the oil pump to get oil pressure before I fired it up. As you probably know the Mini oil pump is a pig to get to - it's an engine out job. So the question is has anybody got any tricks/tips for priming the pump without having to strip the motor down?
Cheers
Nik
Remove the oil pressure switch and use a pump action type oil can to inject oil down the hole. You may need to use a piece of rubber pipe to get a good seal. I've found that you can usualy get enough oil in the pump to make it prime itself, althought it may take a while.
Better still remove the pressure relief spring and piston and prime the pump there. A good few squirts with an oil pump can will do it.
Cheers guys, you may just have saved me an awful lot of work and cash!

Once you've primed the pump, turn the engine over with no spark plugs until the pressure shows on the gauge.
