Bit quiet, though...

I'll kick off with: I used to have a 1974 Mini 1000 with a 1098 engine. It were brilliant!

Excellent! I was just about to ask Ted for this very thing...!!!

To add to the above:

I currently own (and have done for almost 9 years) a 1989 Mini Mayfair in Silver.

Which is about to have a heart transplant...

Just trying to sell my 1.3i equinox, once it’s gone I’ll be driving a 998cc flame, the later cars are ok but the single point injection seems to hold them back, looking forward to modifying the flame, possibly rebuild my 1380 from Bill Richards but only if the Griff stops eating money

Paul,

On a scale of one to potential disaster how difficult would you say the cutting of the front arches for 13's is...?

They do, trouble is its tricky to get discs to fit under them, they are either horribly expensive or machined down 8.4's with a few bits of slightly suspect engineering...

Excellent, seems to be quite a bit of interest. I think I'll start a projects thread so we can see what other people are building....

It wasn't a problem, I just used tin snips to cut the metal, and then bend over to form a new lip, this is needed because if the tyre touches it without a lip it will cut straight through, I then just tidied it up with a grinder. It depends on what offset the wheels have to how much needs to be taken off.

Personally speaking (of course) I don't like 13" wheels on Minis - just looks wrong.

10" should be enough for anybody

Don't you have to fit a new rack or lock stops if fitting 13" wheels on a 10"/12"er?

Cheers, Phil

You could, of course, just fit the 13's as they are and superglue elastic bands onto the rims

{edited to add:} 888 posts in 8 months - time to go place a bet on a Chinese horse, methinks

Just stop turning the wheel when they hit the inner wing

Why not just wait till the inner wings rot away?

Won't take long....

I've had a couple of 998s, an Innocenti Cooper 1300 and a 1275GT.

The GT was much modified, had 85bhp and was probably the best car I've ever had, Westfield, Caterham and Turbo Esprit included.

The 998s and the Innocenti handled better on the 10" wheels than the 12" wheeled GT.

They steered better too.

If anyone has a mint Clubman or 1275GT for sale, then I might well be interested in reliving my misspent yoof.

Pat.

wellllllll..... I reckon on period cars 10" are the best but for the modern look I think 12" or 13" look good.

well I've got a 1986 Mini Mayfair. stripped out, minilites, stage one kit, Kent 286 cam, semi competion clutch, FIA buckets and Roll cage, nice. original idea was to rally it - I just love driving it too much! the noise is great! but I may still do the odd tarmac rally...

edited to add> I've also got a 2001 Seicento Sporting Schumacher which I can't wait to get rid of - good handling, no power, utterly unreliable.

Just noticed this forum Whoo hoo

So far 2000 X reg Mini Cooper Sport 1.3i on 12" rims at the mo just changed the tyres to Yokos 165,65,12s and are they goooood (thanks to all the people on this forum that recommended them). Next stage I think will be to think about suspension mods, then engine mods, but that will be a while yet as its my only car.
